This listing is for a lovely Stieff Sterling Silver tall pedestal compote with a beautiful repousse band around the upper body decorated with chrysanthemums and roses in high relief. Marked “Stieff, Sterling, 126” on base with “o” below the Sterling stamp which dates the piece to 1919. Compote has fancy engraved monogram on base (see photos), base is not weighted.
Measures 4″ high with a 5 1/2″ diameter top and 3 1/2″ diameter base. Weighs 155 grams.
This nice compote is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minimal signs of wear in center of bowl.
The Stieff Company was founded as the Baltimore Sterling Silver Company in 1892 in Baltimore MD. Name was changed to The Stieff Company in 1904 and was changed again in 1979 to Kirk Stieff when Stieff purchased S. Kirk & Son, Inc.
